Building a drumset

This page deals with the drumbits required to build a drumset.

The basic procedure below is the same for all drumset drums - specifics outlined at the end

Drumbits Needed

  • Drum shell
    • Shell finish - lacquer, varnish or wrap
  • Nut Boxes
  • Tension Rods
  • Air vent
  • Drum Hoops
  • Resonant drum head
  • Batter drum head

Process

Prepare shell

  • Create [bearing edges] on both ends of the [drum shell], or purchase a shell with the edges cut.
  • For snares, create a [snare bed] to enable the [snare wires] to lie more flat against the [drum head]
  • Drill holes in the shell appropriate to the [nut boxes] you are to use.
  • Drill hole in the shell for [Air vent]

Drum Finish

  • Take the appropriate steps to either attach the drum wrap or to stain and lacquer / varnish the shell
  • Re-drill holes through wrap and or ensure that holes are clear of lacquer

Assemble Drum

  • Attach the nutboxes, air vent and drum-specific elements to the shell
  • Fit heads and place under tension
  • Adjust to your requirements
  • Enjoy

Bass / kick drum

  • [Spurs] to keep drum stable and in position.
  • Use [claws] on drum hoops
  • Optional [tom holder] attachment

Rack Tom
